Chairman Green Applauds House Passage of Police Week Legislation Addressing the Border Crisis

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) released the following statement, applauding the House of Representatives’ passage of Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement Chairman Clay Higgins’ (R-LA) bill, H.Res. 1210, and Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology Chairman Anthony D’Esposito’s (R-NY) H.R. 8146, the ‘Police Our Border Act.’

This Police Week, I am pleased the House passed bills led by Subcommittee Chairmen Higgins and D’Esposito, both retired law enforcement officers, that recognize the devastating impact of the historic border crisis on all levels of law enforcement across the country and force the Biden administration to face the truth.

It is crucial that we highlight the avoidable costs—financial, emotional, and physical—that the disaster at the border inflicts on the dedicated men and women tasked with securing our communities. It is even more important that we ensure the men and women of local and state law enforcement have the tools they need in this challenging environment. These two pieces of legislation echo the continued efforts of this Committee to secure our borders, support law enforcement, and hold this administration accountable.”

Background:

Subcommittee Chairman Higgins’ resolution, H.Res. 1210, condemns the border crisis created by President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas, and subsequently the tremendous burden law enforcement is forced to bear as a result. Subcommittee Chairman D’Esposito’s ‘Police Our Border Act’ rightly requires the U.S. Attorney General to report on the impact the border crisis is having on law enforcement at the federal, state, local, and tribal level.
