Green: “We must continue to advocate for colorectal cancer patients”
WASHINGTON—Today, Rep. Mark Green, MD, introduced a resolution declaring March as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and encouraged Americans to seek regular check-ups for early signs of colorectal cancer.
Green said, “Today marks the beginning of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is the most lethal form of cancer for those aged 20-49. Last year, I joined the late Rep. Donald Payne Jr. at the National Mall in front of 27,400 blue flags, each representing the number of Americans under fifty years old who would be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2024.
With early detection and treatment, we can save thousands of lives each year. Whether it’s raising awareness, calling your congressman to voice your opposition to colonoscopy prior authorizations, or scheduling a colonoscopy with your doctor, we each have an opportunity to do something. We must continue to advocate for colorectal cancer patients to ensure those flags represent a life saved, not a life lost.”
He concluded, “I encourage my colleagues, and the American people, to join me in recognizing March as Colorectal Cancer Month.”
