WASHINGTON – Rep. Mark Green announced support for the Senate-passed version of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 (NDAA) that received 86 bipartisan votes as he voted NO on the House version of the NDAA.

“Democrat leadership talks like they’re tough on Russia, but their actions tell another story. Russia is building up its nuclear forces and is in possession of up to 2,000 nuclear warheads. But the NDAA House Democrat leaders threw together would undermine our deterrent posture and empower the Kremlin. Not to mention the controversial liberal amendments the majority party tacked on at the last minute would handicap our military’s ability to keep us safe. Instead of supporting the House version, I support the Senate-passed, bipartisan version of the NDAA that gives our troops the raise and resources they need to do their jobs and protect this country. I hope whatever comes out of conference more closely resembles the Senate NDAA than the House NDAA.

“While I could not support the full legislation, I was glad to see my amendment to assess our Armed Forces’ ‘spiritual readiness’ made it into the final bill. I hope to see it remain in the bill as the bill goes to conference and is readied for the president’s desk.”
