Rep. Mark Green Introduces Amendment to Prohibit Teaching of Critical Race Theory at Military Service Academies
WASHINGTON—Tonight, Rep. Mark Green introduced his amendment to the FY2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that prohibits the teaching of Critical Race Theory at military Service Academies. He previously introduced a similar piece of legislation as a bill.
Rep. Green, a graduate of West Point said, “Our military Service Academies train leaders and warriors for combat—men and women of every race, creed, and religion. If Critical Race Theory becomes the norm in the classrooms of our military Service Academies, the unit cohesion necessary to win in combat will be destroyed. Our country cannot afford for this to happen.”
“Critical Race Theory is a Marxist ideology that tells Americans to judge one another by the color of their skin. We should never go back to this kind of thinking. Having worn the uniform of this Nation for over two decades, my time at West Point defined my whole life. It was there where I learned to lead, and it was there where I learned how to defend my country with honor. And it was West Point that prepared me for a life of service. That’s why I’m so disturbed and dismayed to see Critical Race Theory, which teaches discrimination is warranted, take root across our nation’s Service Academies. Readiness is our Service Academies’ most important duty. Everything taught from day one is how to defend this country. Yet those in charge today seem to care more about the left’s woke agenda than military readiness. That’s a grave mistake.”
Critical Race Theory is an ideology that teaches America–and every American institution–is based on a foundation of racism, and supports breaking the law, instead of upon the principles of equality, justice, and freedom. Under pressure from the Pentagon, Service Academies have implemented Critical Race Theory initiatives ranging from mandatory diversity training to reading lists that include Ibram X. Kendi’s How to be an Antiracist. Some Service Academies have even gone as far as to add a Diversity and Inclusion minor.
