Chairman Green Releases Statement on President Trump's Latest Border Security Success: Get Reconciliation Done Now to Implement President's Proven Agenda
WASHINGTON—Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) released the following statement after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) revealed a 93% drop in Southwest border apprehensions and an 88% drop in nationwide border encounters in April 2025 compared to April 2024:
“Americans are safer because of President Trump’s swift and decisive action to end catch-and-release, rescind unlawful Biden-era mass-parole programs, and restore law and order to our nation’s borders. In just a few months, President Trump’s border security agenda has led to record-low illegal immigration and has increased morale among federal law enforcement. For four years Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Alejandro Mayorkas ignored not just federal immigration law, but the needs of our brave Border Patrol agents and pushed forward with a radical, open-borders agenda. Under President Trump, these men and women have been able to get back to their frontline border security mission.
“Now, it’s Congress’ job to ensure CBP personnel have the resources needed to implement President Trump’s proven border security agenda for years to come. There is no time to hold President Trump’s ‘one big, beautiful bill’ hostage to sectarian political interests. It’s time for Congress to get reconciliation done. We cannot fail to deliver on our promise to the American people to secure our borders and our communities once and for all.”
