HASC Passes Rep. Green’s NDAA Amendment Removing Made in China Products from Military Post Exchanges
WASHINGTON—Today, Rep. Mark Green introduced an amendment to the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to remove all products manufactured, assembled, or imported from China currently stocked within U.S. military post exchanges or commissaries. The House Armed Services Committee passed the amendment in a bipartisan vote.
The Chinese Communist Party has been attempting to steal valuable military technology, including semiconductors, by exploiting trade with the United States. In nearly every U.S. military post exchange, products from China are stocked on the shelves of various stores. These products are the result of exploitative, and in many cases slave labor, that has ended up on the store shelves of military posts that are paid for with American taxpayer funds.
Green said, “The Chinese Communist Party believes they can steal our military technology without consequence. We need to show them that isn’t the case. There are consequences to their actions. We must show the CCP that it cannot continue to take advantage of our good faith. Removing Chinese products from our military exchanges is just one step we can take to tighten the bottleneck of American dollars ending up in the pockets of CCP officials. Our nation produces an abundance of goods that are able to stock the shelves at our military posts. We cannot ask American taxpayers to foot the bill for Chinese goods that only benefits the fake capitalist economy propagated by the Chinese Communist Party. We need American goods stocking the shelves of American posts. I’m grateful to the House Armed Services Committee for passing my important amendment.”
