Rep. Green Protects Coast Guard, ICE, and CBP From Government Shutdowns

WASHINGTON—Today, Rep. Mark Green reintroduced the Coast Guard Sustained Funding Act to ensure U.S. Coast Guard personnel are paid in the event of an appropriations lapse. He also reintroduced the Homeland Heroes Pay Act to ensure frontline employees of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are paid in the event of a lapse in appropriations.

On the Coast Guard Sustained Funding Act, Green said, “Coast Guardsmen risk their lives to defend our waters, enforce U.S. maritime law, safeguard the movement of maritime commerce and economic activity, and conduct search and rescue operations. Their contribution to America’s security mission is of the utmost importance.

Like our other service branches, the Coast Guard should not have to wait on Congress to pass an appropriations bill in order to receive payment for their service. My bill prioritizes the livelihoods of our Coast Guard members and their families.”

On the Homeland Heroes Pay Act, Green said, “Our nation’s officers and agents within CBP and ICE work around the clock to secure our borders and protect our communities. Congress cannot allow a lapse in funding to affect their critical missions. Those working to defend our nation from criminal aliens and terrorists attempting to cross our borders should never have to worry about when their next paycheck will arrive.”

The Coast Guard Sustained Funding Act was cosponsored by Reps: Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) and Monica De La Cruz (R-FL).
