WASHINGTON – Since being sworn in to Congress, Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) has made it a priority to honor the fallen and support Gold Star spouses and families. His very first bill introduced was a bipartisan piece of legislation called the Protecting Gold Star Spouses Act to continue pay to Gold Star families during government shutdowns. Recently, he has introduced a second bill called the Protecting Gold Star Children Act. This bill would return Gold Star children to a tax rate derived from the parent tax bracket, instead of being taxed at a rate from trust fund tax brackets. Many children will go from a 37% rate to a 15% tax rate.

“We should never forget the men and women who paid the ultimate price for our freedom,” said Rep. Mark Green. “Many Americans will gather around monuments on Memorial Day, paying their respect to those who gave all. There’s a small wall at Fort Campbell that has names of my fellow Night Stalkers on it, friends of mine who came home with a flag draped over them. We can never forget them. Their names, their families, their dreams and their stories must be shared.

“We’re at a crossroads in our nation today. Today, we are more focused on ‘self’ and the ‘now’ than ever before,” continued Green. “Monuments and holidays like Memorial Day remind us we are part of something much larger than ourselves. There is a cause worth dying for. That cause is freedom and the republic in which it lives.”

On Memorial Day May 27th, Rep. Mark Green will be attending and speaking at the Williamson County Memorial Day Service at the Veterans Park in Franklin, TN at 10am CST.

He will also be attending and speaking at a Decatur County Memorial Day event in Decaturville, TN at 2:30 CST.

Rep. Mark Green is a veteran who served two tours in Iraq and one tour in Afghanistan.
