Reps. Green, Chabot, Buck, Burchett, Barr, Kim Release Statement Following House Rules Committee Decision to Prevent Floor Debate on Subcommittee's China Amendment

WASHINGTON—Representatives Mark Green (R-Tennessee), Steve Chabot (R-Ohio), Ken Buck (R-Colorado), Tim Burchett (R-Tennessee), Andy Barr (R-Kentucky), and Young Kim (R-California), Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia, and Nonproliferation, released the following statement on the House Rules Committee’s decision to prevent floor debate on the Subcommittee’s amendment. Ranking Member Steve Chabot had consolidated several proposals from Subcommittee Members into a single amendment that he offered as the Subcommittee’s alternative to part of the Democrats’ weak-on-China America COMPETES Act.

“We are deeply frustrated that Democratic leadership has refused to allow for floor debate on the Subcommittee’s response amendment or on over 40 other amendments proposed by Members of our Subcommittee,” the Members said. “Unlike the COMPETES Act, the response amendment focuses on countering the Chinese Communist Party with several hard-hitting proposals on subjects ranging from human rights to technology transfer. The Democrats' decision to ignore most of the proposals offered by minority Members on the Subcommittee with jurisdiction over China speaks volumes. It is clear this majority has little interest in considering proposals that would actually confront the CCP and its ambitions.”
