Combat the ‘Triangle of Tyranny’ threatening to overtake America

.

The United States serves as a beacon of freedom around the globe. The red, white, and blue of our flag is a reminder to the world that freedom is a precious gift from God that cannot be rightfully taken by any government.

However, over the past three years that I’ve served in Congress, I’ve witnessed a dangerous transformation. Radical leftists in Washington, not all Democrats, are attempting to rework the very fabric of our society to fit their goal: an authoritarian way of life in the U.S. In essence, the Left wants to replace our Founders’ concept of the “Golden Triangle of Freedom” with a “Tyranny Triangle” of dependence and subjugation.

The Golden Triangle of Freedom is how our Founders viewed the country. The eminent social critic Os Guinness details this concept in his book, A Free People’s Suicide: Sustainable Freedom and the American Future. To put it simply: our freedom requires a virtuous people, virtue requires faith, and faith requires freedom. I agree with many who have suggested that the “faith” in the triangle means a fixed concept of moral right and wrong. If we don’t have all of these, we cannot have a functioning constitutional republic; we cannot have freedom.

To execute their goal — centralized power in their hands — radical leftists are scheming up an excuse to overthrow our way of life so that we all want a new system. How are they doing this? By painting a negative picture of our current systems of government and the economy: bad, evil, inequitable, threatening to our very lives.

As I contemplated the differences between the anti-freedom actions of the progressive Left, I realized leftists have a triangle, too, which is the antithesis of the Golden Triangle of Freedom: I call it the “Triangle of Tyranny.”

Authoritarianism is a coin of two sides, dependence and subjugation. To achieve both requires degrees of chaos. Chaos leads a people to surrender freedoms to an authoritarian for peace and security. To take root, you need moral relativism. Of course, moral relativism requires some degree of authoritarianism to direct what the leadership says is “proper” today. We know how this ends — with tyranny as the result.

Everything the progressive Left is doing in America today points toward its end goal: the complete undoing of the American way of life, culture, and capitalism for the establishment of authoritarianism.

Take President Joe Biden’s incompetent withdrawal from Afghanistan that left 13 service members dead. The effects of this hastily conceived withdrawal? America can no longer be trusted, U.S. military equipment is in the hands of terrorists, China reaps the benefits of no U.S. presence, and our relationships with other democracies that fought the War on Terror alongside us are tarnished. Degrees of chaos and abandonment, a slap in the face of the moral right of “leave no one behind.”

Yet another example of the Left’s malign efforts is the belief that all U.S. systems are racist. The obvious conclusion is if all systems are racist, we need new systems. Defunding the police and defunding the Pentagon are direct assaults. Less direct are the intentional failure of our economy, increased numbers of our populace dependent on government assistance, increased dependency on foreign oil. These are just examples that manipulate people to believe the capitalist system is unjust and should be replaced by a socialist utopia run by the same liberals.

To the detriment of us all, authoritarianism is already taking root. Look at the current “woke” culture that cancels those who believe differently than others. This is authoritarianism, empowered by the chaos resulting from forced concepts of morality. Controlling what is deemed “acceptable” and what isn’t gives power to centralized decision makers, reaching the Left’s goal of centralized control. Biden’s federal vaccine mandate will destroy companies, our military, our economy, and workforce. This is the next level of the Left’s authoritarianism.

The sexual revolution of the 1960s was also about doing away with a fixed moral right and wrong. The evolution in the abortion debate sits as the best example. Years ago, most liberals voiced virtuous concerns for abortion in the latter stages of pregnancy. Just last month, all but one House Democrat voted to allow abortion up to the moment of labor. That shifting concept of right and wrong defined by them is the epitome of moral relativity.

America must wake up to the Left’s efforts to reshape the mold in which our entire country was founded. We cannot allow the Triangle of Tyranny and authoritarianism to take root. The authoritarianism leftists desire, where they decide what is right and rebuild our institutions, leads to tyranny. Many may believe a socialist utopia ushered in and overseen by them will serve America best. The problem is that the concentration of power in the hands of a few has always led to tyranny.

It is imperative we meet the challenge of this fight. The U.S. is the greatest country in the world because of our commitment to freedom. We must continue to serve as a bastion of that freedom for centuries to come.
