Chairman Green on Justice Served in Rachel Morin Case: "The Immense Damage Caused By Biden-Harris Open-Border Policies Can't Be Fully Undone"

WASHINGTON—Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) released the following statement after Victor Martinez-Hernandez, an illegal alien from El Salvador, was found guilty on Monday of the murder of Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother of five:

“Now that justice has been served to Rachel Morin’s killer, we remember her and hold her family, especially her five children, and all the families of victims of illegal alien crime in our prayers. Over the past four years, the Biden-Harris administration’s refusal to enforce the law resulted in roughly two million known gotaways at the Southwest border. Tragically, Rachel’s killer was one of these individuals. The Committee was honored to have Rachel’s mother, Patty, provide courageous testimony last Congress on her loss, opening the eyes of Americans across the country to the true cost of the border crisis. The immense damage caused by Biden and Harris’ open-borders policies can’t be fully undone, but this Committee is working tirelessly, alongside the Trump administration, to ensure it never happens again, and that other families never have to experience this heartache.”

Background:

The homeland security catastrophe created by the Biden-Harris administration allowed fentanyl and illegal aliens to take the lives of innocent Americans. Last year, Patty Morin, Rachel Morin’s mother, testified before the Committee. In her opening statement, Morin described how the open border allowed her daughter’s killer in and continues to put Americans across the country in danger:

“It took 10 months for them to find this suspect––the illegal immigrant. They used DNA because this man had attacked a nine-year-old and her mother in Los Angeles… They say that the borders are safe. We live 1,800 miles away from the Southern border. They’re not safe. They’re not safe. Do you have a sanctuary city in your state? You’re not safe. We’re not safe. And I just hope and pray that you will listen to what we have to say… Rachel was, when she was a little girl, she was like a little spitfire, tiny little redhead. As an adult, she was this vibrant, vivacious, outgoing person. Everybody just loved to know her. She was so compassionate and kind… She was a mom to five children. She was a businesswoman. She liked to exercise. She’s the American mom, and she’s not the only one in our cities that have been murdered… They are bringing criminals into our country. They are allowing them into our smallest towns, and our people are dying.”
